Simpson Capstan Rope Winch
A Simpson Capstan Rope Winch is a great tool for hauling, dragging, or lifting. It can turn a small chain saw into a rope pulling machine -- very handy to have in the back of your pick-up when you are out in the woods.
Rope isn't as strong as cable, but it is flexible, light-weight, often more readily available, and can be knotted or tied. With a capstan style winch, you're not limited to the length of cable that a drum will hold, either.
A Simpson winch weighs only 9 lbs. and easily attaches to a chain saw power head. It is powered by a short cutterless 3/8" pitch drive chain. This is a common size found on most mid-size chain saws. To install it, remove the saw's bar and chain, install the furnished adapter and cutterless chain, and you are ready to pull.
The winch's maximum pull is 2000 lbs. Naturally, the size of the saw's engine affects the power of the winch. A saw engine of about three cubic inches or 50cc is best.
The Husqvarna 357 chain saw
and
winch
combination shown weighs 24.9 lbs. This particular
installation requires removing the clutch from the saw in order to take
the bar plate off. This is required because of the Husky's chain
adjuster
mechanism would be in the way of the winch mounting bracket. Most saws
do not require this.
The entire mounting job takes about 15 minutes. Call us if you
need more information on this winch
or the installation.
Gas Powered Winches Excel For Long, Remote Pulls.
- With gas powered winches you are not tied to a vehicle battery
- Carry in your hand, back pack, vehicle or boat. Lock and store when not in use
- You can pull loads long distances or
continually without overheating the motor or loss of pulling power
The Capstan Winch Has Advantages.
- You're not limited to the length of cable the drum will hold
- Pulling power does not decrease as drum fills as is the case with drum type winches
- You can take up the slack in the winch
line or play out the line, by hand, without running the winch
Pull With Rope, Not Wire Cable.
- Strong, flexible, lightweight rope is readily available
- Rope can be knotted and tied if it breaks
- Rope is safer if it breaks and snaps back
- Rope needs to be minimum of 5/16" up to
3/8ths", Dacron, (3 strand twisted or double braid) Polyester or
Manila. 3/8" is ideal.
Hundreds Of Uses
- Big Game Hunters - When the elk you just shot is over a thousand feet down a steep canyon

- Vehicle Owners - When your vehicle is high centered or stuck
- Vehicle can be pulled in any direction when room is tight
- Boat Owners - When the only way back to the trailer for your boat is up a steep incline
- Contractors/Loggers - When pulling cable, or hauling equipment and materials
- Rescue
